Med student information
Ultrasound Rotation
The focus of this EM ultrasound rotation is to provide as much hands-on ultrasound scanning as possible. We have daily lectures to discuss all of the core ultrasound topics, followed by scanning in the emergency department with an ultrasound faculty member. We also utilize our high fidelity ultrasound simulation trainer to practice techniques and to introduce learners to a wide range of pathology. During the rotation, we will cover basic bedside ultrasound skills as well as more advanced topics such as nerve blocks and transesophageal echo.

Ultrasound Elective
Offered to EM PGY3 residents as an opportunity to strengthen ultrasound skills by teaching junior residents, learn advanced fellow-level topics with ultrasound faculty, and participate in administrative duties of the ultrasound program. Extra time spent with US techs to focus on techniques and time with anesthesia to have more experience with nerve blocks in the operating room.
Ultrasound Scholarly Track
Offered to EM residents throughout the 3 years. Offers residents additional opportunities in research, ultrasound administration, career guidance and mentorship. Ideal for residents considering ultrasound fellowship, but is offered to any resident with a special interest in ultrasound. Residents who complete the scholarly track will earn a distinction in ultrasound at graduation.
